Cougar Head Coach Larry Thompson - 2006 Inductee
Larry is a 1970 graduate of Lakeville High School and a graduate of Augsburg College. He has been involved in Lakeville Schools for 44 years. His athletic career as a Lakeville High School athlete includes captaincies, and All Conference honors in football, basketball and baseball. He was named Lakeville High School Outstanding Athlete in 1970. At Augsburg College, he was a two year All American in football and a member of their Athletic Hall of Fame. As a 30 year coach at Lakeville High School and now at Lakeville South High School, he is a six time Minnesota "Coach of the Year" recipient and coached state Championship teams in 1988 (4A), 1992 (5A) and 2003 (5A). Coach Thompson has also been named the KARE11 Prep Sports Extra Coach of the Year twice. Larry has coached three Lakeville teams to state runner-up finishes. Among active Minnesota High School football coaches, Larry Thompson ranks 8th all time in the state with 233 victories at the conclusion of the 2010 season. Among all Class AAAAA active coaches, Thompson ranks #3 in victories. In the history of the state in all classes, Coach Thompson has moved up to #18 in number of all time victories. Coach Thompson's career record stood at 240-115-1 at the conclusion of 2010.
All members of the Lakeville South coaching staff since 2005, these four coaches have been involved with Lakeville athletics for over 100 years combined, previously working with the football team when Lakeville High School was combined.
